Remove Amazon S3 scale out repository

Post by fafa24 »

Hello

Some time I implemtend the scale out repository with AWS S3 (capacity tier). Now I would like to remove the repository. What is the correct way to remove the repository? Will the process also delete the contents on AWS S3 or is this something which needs to be done manually with the AWS console?

Thanks,

Hi Fafa,

Have you had a chance to take a look at our Object Storage Repository Removal guide?

Thanks

Removing the repository from Backup Infrastructure won't delete the data. Right-click, Remove.... But before you do that...

To delete through Veeam Backup & Replication console is pretty simple. From the 'Home' view there is a section called 'backups' and below that you'll see 'Disk' and 'Disk (imported)' - open each of those views and you'll see what backups you have on storage and which repository they are stored in.

'Imported' means it has no associated job definition, so it just exists in storage and there is no corresponding job.

Right-click on any of the jobs you want to delete from storage and choose 'Delete from disk' and that will remove the data from the repository. If there is a corresponding job definition in the main backup view you can delete that or change the definition to point to a different repository.

When you're satisfied that you've deleted all the jobs from the repository then remove it from Backup Infrastructure.

A good additional level of insurance is to log a support ticket to say you don't want the AWS service... even if you don't follow it up and wait for them to automatically close the ticket that will act as a more formal way of saying you aren't expecting any further charges compared with just leaving it empty...

Thanks for your reply. All clear now. I don't have the AWS service from Veeam.

EJ is talking about opening a support case with Amazon, as means of protecting you from their further charges (in case you miss something). It's a good tip.
