question about subscription/rent licence for only 2 VMs
Hello,
Customer has only one HyperV host Win2016 and 2x Win2016 VMs
The tariff for rental / subscription Veeam license has changed so that you can not do this anymore: Veeam rental license to secure 2x VMs "
You have to min. Buy quantity 10 licences. Customer had last year quantity 2 "can rental"
The best way would be purchase of rount 700€ licence right?

Hi,
Can you clarify which backup features your customer is utilizing?
Since it seems that all he needs is Veeam Backup and Replication Community Edition. Thanks!

Re: question about subscription/rent licence for only 2 VMs
Hi User56,
There is a new instance-based licensing model that was recently introduced with B&R 9.5 Update 4 release. I would recommend you to take a look at this FAQ, Veeam Licensing Policy (note the conversion tables), and Instances Calculator that all together will make the licensing aspects a bit more clear.
In your situation (just two VMs) the best options are:
1. New "B&R Community Edition" - 10 instances at no cost, the same functionality as B&R Standard Edition offers.
2. "Backup Essentials" 2x bundles - 10 instances for 348
* Also not that Veeam Backup Essentials includes not just B&R, it also offers extensive monitoring capabilities delivered by Veeam ONE, but has additional limitations (6 sockets, 30 instances can be purchased at max).
3. B&R Standard - 10 instances for 435 - no limits for further expansion at the cost of Veeam ONE monitoring.
Regards,
Fedor

Hi,
Veeam Backup and Replication Community Edition >
sounds very nice thx. Any limitations about this free version regarding "running sql databases?"
We have a SQL 2015 Standard on Windows Server 2016.

Hi User56,
You can treat Community Edition as Standard Edition - no differences here in terms of capabilities, especially those related to SQL protection.

Fedor
