I need to backup some guest Windows Server VMs acting as either DC and/or SQL server.
The policy is confnguring guest processing for copy only without truncating SQL DBs.
Sometime it happens that the user credentials used for guest processing change so that the VM backup is not performed.
If I configure the backup of a Windows Server VM with SQL, set "Try application processing but ignore failures" and the application processing is not performed due to password related issues, I know that the backup of the DB can be impossible to restore but other files are saved anyway, is it correct?
Can such backup damage in any way the VM or its contents?
In other words, can I safely set "Try application processing but ignore failures" and say that the backup can be incomplete but that the source VM is not damaged in any way?
Regards

Re: Guest processing and wrong credentials
Hi Mario,
Sure, it's absolutely safe to perform such operations, but please keep in mind the DB backup might be inconsistent.

Fedor
