[AIX] Veeam agent for AIX

Post by mmasina »

I got fron the User Guide that "Backup of a Virtual I/O Server (VIOS) is not supported". So far, the majority of IBM Power servers installed base (multiple LPAR under VIOS) is not protected through this agent.
Are there any suggestion/new feature announced?

Hi,

Please elaborate on this one:
So far, the majority of IBM Power servers installed base (multiple LPAR under VIOS) is not protected through this agent.
The fact that VIOS is not supported doesn't mean that LPARs that work under that VIOS cannot be protected by VAU. Are you looking to protect VIOS specifically, or there is something else what does not let you use VAU for LPARs?

Thanks!

In case of restoring the entire AIX server, I think that a a backup of the VIOS is needed to preserve the LPAR configuration, probably i've to use other tools (HMC based for example), are you agree?

Veeam Agent for AIX is capable of saving AIX server configuration (such as partitions layout and filesystems configuration) into a backup. During bare-metal restore from Recovery ISO the agent obtains the configuration from the backup file and can use it to perform automatic recovery.

Thanks!

In summary, if i've an IBM Power9 with VIOS and 3 Lpar's (i.e.), i can do a bare Metal ISO backup to a NAS and restored it entirely from scratch?

Right, you can do a full backup of each LPAR and save that backup to NAS. Also you can (and should) create an individual Recovery ISO for each of LAPRs and save it somewhere where ISOs will be accessible. Later, when you need BMR, you boot from the corresponding ISO (either attached directly to LPAR, or using PXE boot) and use it to perform BMR from the backup that resides on NAS.

Thanks!

Hi,

Why the documentation doesn't mention LPARS at all?

https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/agent ... tml?ver=10

I also would like to know if the following scenario is possible:

- Incrementally backing up 2 VIOS LPARs with Oracle Standard DB to a NFS server which will be located on a DR Datacenter. The link would be 20 mbps mpls connection.

One question:

is it possible to get information about the roadmap for the AIX agent?

Thanks!
