Veeam Agent For Windows - Laptop 2 in 1 - SD Card backup

Post by Backup Is Good »

Hello,

How to back up a complete computer by adding the SD card to the backup
I saw that we could modify a Job with an XML file,
Do you have the solution?
Is there another possibility?
Can we concatenate a Job File and a full computer job
Thanks for your help

Hello,

Do you want to back up data stored on the SD card? If this drive is seen as a regular external drive, you can back it up. Please see this thread over here > External Drive not being backed up

As for the last question, can you please clarify it? Why do you want to "concatenate" the backup file?

Thank you!

Re: Veeam Agent For Windows - Laptop 2 in 1 - SD Card backup

Hello,

I backup a hybrid computer with a very small C disk
My data is on an SD card
My backups are on USB external disk

If I choose the PC Backup Integer, the sd card is not saved
If I choose the entire PC backup and include external USB drives, Veeam backs up the external drive and the computer to that same external drive without taking the SD card.

The SD card appears only in the list of backup targets

If I choose Volume Level Backup or File Level Backup, the SD card does not appear in the objects to back up

Is it possible to change this in order to choose
- Backup Entire Computer and an option to display SD cards and USB disk
- Have a check box to choose the items to save so that Veeam does not save the USB device on itself.

In power Shell?
With XML tags?
Currently XML tags do not allow this

Where can we vote or propose changes for Veeam

Thank you for your answers

I thought I could generate a job with full backup of the computer, then a job File Level Backup with selection of the SD card.
I will have used the export of Job and concatenate the Jobs so that the set executes.
This has the purpose of circumventing missing features.
The problem remains intact since the SD card is not visible in the objects to be backed up

Thank you

Hi Dima,

I am experiencing the same problem. Using 3.0.2.1170. Can you help me with this? I would need/love to backup the SD-Card.

Thank you, Chris

Hello Christoph,

Can you please clarify the problem? Can you select SD card as a source for files while configuring the backup job? Thank you!

Hi Dima,

no, I cannot.

If I choose the entire PC backup and include external USB drives, Veeam backs up the external drive and the computer to that same external drive without taking the SD card.
If I choose "Volume Level Backup" or "File Level Backup", the SD card does not appear in the objects to back up.

I assume your type of SD card does not support VSS snapshots (as VAW supports only removable media that can be processed via VSS snapshot by operating system). In order to investigate it please raise a support case and share the case ID in this thread. Thank you in advance!

Thanks for the idea. I formatted the sd card to ntfs (was exfat before), but that changed nothing. Then I mounted it as a folder via the diskmanagement and now it is backed up as well.

Sorry, I tested with the empty sd-card and the mount-point-folder was backed up. Now with files in it, there is still only the empty folder in the backup. I won't have the laptop for long, so I cannot open a support case.

Christoph,

We need the debug logs from the machine where you have this issue, otherwise we cannot identify the root cause. You can raise a support case from the machine (debug logs will be attached automatically) and then continue all the conversation with the support engineer via email (it's not required to have access to the machine all the time while your are communicating with our support team). Thank you.

OP's case was closed as the backup of SD cards was not supported due to VSS limitations in the guest OS (SD card didn't support VSS snapshots).
