Tape restore is still broken

Post by check4backup »

Hi,

look at: post269774.html#p269774

The document "What's New in Update 4" says:
Restore from incremental file backup set can now only process files that were present in the folder at the time
the particular backup set was created, instead of restoring all deleted files that were ever present in the folder.

But it doesn't work. Veeam asks still for all previous tapes. You can not restore a single Folder, wether incremental or full.

Thanks

Hello,
is it possible that you tried it with a backup that was made before U4?

Because the described improvement only works with backups made with U4.

Thanks,
Hannes

thanks for the feedback - if it does not work for whatever reason, I would like to ask you to open a ticket. But I'm confident that it will work :-)

Now i tried to restore an complete folder from tape. The backup was taken with Veeam Update 4. Veeam still asks for all previous tapes.

What prerequisites are valid? The folder exists before update 4, but the backup (full) was taken after installing update 4. The tape was still used before update 4. But Veeam asks for all tapes used 3 years ago.

Hello,
sorry for the last answer. I checked again internally and the only requirement is that we need a new full backup with U4. If that does not work, could you open a case and refer to me? And post the case number here for reference.

Thanks,
Hannes

check4backup,

Can you please make sure that full backup of the entire folder was written to tape after U4 was installed? Once full backup is written to tape, Veeam B&R will start to keep the folder history and wont ask for excess tape media while restore from incremental restore point is performed. Cheers!

Case: 03475540 - I have linked the case to this thread.

All my backups to tape are full backups (files to tape). Ich don't make incremental backups to tape. I've created a new job, erase an existing tape, delete the tape from library and add this tape as a new tape. Then i take an new full backup with the new job and try to restore an single folder. Veeam asks still for previous tapes. Bevor this action veeam asks for 25 tapes, after this action veaam asks "only" for 5 tapes.

Of course i've tested with U4.
