NFS in 2019...

Post by atakacs »

Hi

Quite new to Veeam - sorry if this is a trivial question.

From the FAQ I read "Any storage directly attached to, or mounted on a Linux server (x86 and x64 of all major distributions are supported, must have bash shell, SSH and Perl installed). The storage can be local disks, directly attached disk-based storage (such as USB hard drive), NFS share, or iSCSI/FC SAN LUN in case the server is connected into the SAN fabric."

I have tried to research this forum and online resources and to the best of my understanding NFS support has evolved from "no way" to yes, through a Linux server with SSH and Perl.

So directly accessing an NFS share is a no no - what about mounting the NFS share within Windows ? Do I really need to provision a Linux machine to act as a "passthrough" ?!

Hello,
well, you question just means I might need to simplify wording in the FAQ :-)

Today we cannot write to NFS directly from Windows. We need a Linux machine that mounts the NFS share. This Linux machine must have perl, bash & ssh installed.
Do I really need to provision a Linux machine to act as a "passthrough" ?!
As of today: yes. But it is a common feature request, so we try to improve that.

Best regards,
Hannes

Thanks for the follow-up

You haven't addressed my second question (mounting the NFS as a Windows share). Bad idea ?

Yes, we do not support this because of bad experience with it.
