full VM restores of SQL servers, ver 9.5

Post by rossb2 »

is the procedure for full VM restores of SQL servers on ver 9.5, the same as restoring VM images?

I have read the articles at
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/evaluation ... store.html
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/evaluation ... store.html

the database example given shows a point in time restore for a single SQL database. But if you are restoring a full SQL server VM, do you follow the generic restore procedure?, or do you have to go via SQL explorer for multiple databases?

Hi Ross,

It depends on your needs. If the VM has been lost completely, then you should recover it first, then use SQL explorer if you'd like to get a database to some specific point in time using T-log backup.

I'd recommend you to take a look at these guides for more info:
1. Backup and Restore of SQL Server Databases guide
2. Veeam Explorer for Microsoft SQL Server guide, Data Restore

Hope it helps!
