Protected VM report - missing servers
Recently, I've noticed a few VMs which haven't been included in any Backup jobs.
Every day we receive a 'Protected VMs' Veeam ONE report, which shows our infrastructure as 100% protected.
The VMs aren't included in either the protected, or unprotected lists.
Does anyone know the qualification for inclusion in this report, and what would cause VMs to be excluded?

Should probably mention, this is Veeam ONE 9.5u4, reporting on vSphere 6.5u1.

Hi Ferrus,
Please let us know what is a scope setting you have chosen in the report? Any exclusions are set? Are the servers the VMs run on added to Veeam ONE? If you could share the configuration of your report (just a screenshot) it would be great!
Thanks in advance!

Here's a screenshot of the report:
The exclusion removes some auto-provisioned servers that are recreated every night.
The names of the missing servers are very different from the exclusion mask.

Re: Protected VM report - missing servers
Just checked - the currently missing VM, is in a VM Folder with other servers that are detected.
It's also marked as a VM, and not a template.
Will check if it's identified in Veeam ONE.

The VM is listed in Veeam ONE Monitor (and a previous VM, that was excluded from the report).

Well, this is a bit strange. I would suggest running a report without the exclusion mask just for testing purpose. If that does not shed any light on the situation you may reach our support team for extensive investigation.

I ran the report without the exclusion mask - and the server still didn't appear.
I'll open a support call.

Hello ferrus,
Another guess is to use the second radio-button Scope(VI) instead of Files and folders.
In any case, one you open a support case, please share its number with us.

Re: Protected VM report - missing servers
Thanks for looking into the issue. I'm working with support now to identify why the VMs (there's six now) are being skipped.
The case number is 03499414.

Thanks for sharing the support case number.
Have you tried the workaround with "Scope(VI)"?

Re: Protected VM report - missing servers
Yes - same result, unfortunately.
Following that - I tried selecting "Business View Objects", and checking all the Last Backup Dates - as the VMs actually appear in there, in the Veeam ONE Monitor app.
But they don't even appear with that config.

Looks like we cannot help here on forums.
The best you can do is to keep working with the support team.

Re: Protected VM report - missing servers
Quick update on this call.
I don't have the solution yet - but Veeam ONE support have identified the source of the issue.
Over 200 of our current VMs were migrated from a previous datacentre last year, using Veeam Replication.
All of these VMs are still marked as 'Replicas' within the .vmx files, rather than 'Original VMs' - because of the workflow we used to complete the migration.
It's not obvious in either the Veeam or VMware consoles, but it means they're skipped from many reports - including the Protected VM report.
We've identified several more VMs, which have never had a backup, because of this.
I've just closed case #03499414 with Veeam ONE support, and opened a new call #03540983 for B&R support, to see if there's a way to bulk remove the Veeam Replica tag - from all the VMs.
