Copy from a server with low hard disk space

First of all I want to say sorry because the question would be very easy to answer...

I have a server with 3 virtual machines. Each vm has 200 Gb and the total space of the disk is 700 Gb. So I have 600 Gb occupied and 100 Gb free.

Can I do a copy with veeam backup of these vMs? I don't know if veeam backup do a snapshot of something like that in the hard disk of the server prior to move the copy to the destination. As I have only 100Gb free I don't know if I can do the copy.

Hi Salva,

Could you please clarify what you'd like to achieve saying "do a copy"? Do you want to perform a backup or replication? In both cases Veeam B&R creates snapshots, thus yes, if the snapshot size is bigger then the amount of available space on the datastore a VM resides at the job will fail with the corresponding message.

Sorry, I mean a backup of the Vm. So if the snapshot is done on the hd of the vm I don't have space. Thanks for the answer.

Just to clarify: the snapshot is placed on a datastore where the VM disks are located and will be deleted once the backup is done.

But that datastore is the destination datastore or the origin datastore where the vm is?

Datastore 1 where Vm1 is. This datastore has 100 Gb free space. The Vm is 200 Gb.

Datastore 2 where the backup will be stored. This datastore has enough space.

The snapshot for backup Vm1 is placed in datastore 1?

Correct. The snapshot files are stored on datastore 1 if the VM files reside at this datastore, and then will be deleted once the backup is finished, while the backup itself is stored on the repository you target with the backup job.
