SetVmChangeTracking failed

Post by perjonsson1960 »

Folks,

I just did the very first backup of eight new servers in VMware. One of the servers got this warning:

"SetVmChangeTracking failed, vmRef 'vm-107984', changeTrackingEnabled 'True' The operation is not allowed in the current state."

What is this due to, and what does it mean? Is the backup still okay?

I neglected to mention that we are running B&R 9.5 Update 4a, and the VM that generated the warning is a Windows Server 2016 64-bit.

Hi Per, since it is just a warning, then the backup is ok. But please contact technical support for a closer look.

My guess is that the VM has change block tracking not enabled or need change block tracking reset (we detected a change in the VM configuration that need to do this step).

Somthing that prevent to enable change block tracking is when a VM snapshot is present or Snapshot/disk consolidation is needed. Please check this and if deleting existing snapshots did not worked, please open a support ticket as suggested by Alexader.
