Surpress local warnings or notifications at all

Post by c.schulzejn »

We are evaluating VAW with VBR. Deployment and Backup Jobs were configured.

Is it possible to surpress all warnings at the client GUI, so the endusers don't get bothered? It is enough, if the admins see warnings in the VBR console.

Hi Christoph,

You can "suppress" all warnings by switching all agents to the Server mode - Managed by backup server.
It will remove UI on the endpoints, leaving an agent service for backups.

Otherwise, you cannot turn off warnings, that's by design. Thanks!

Hi,
to be fair, that also sets the price to server edition...

Best regards,
Hannes

Thx for your replies.

I respect your decision on the design, but I don't like it. The costs are three times higher with server edition.

<offtopic>
IMHO the names "Workstation Edition" and "Server Edition" are no longer suitable.

I fully understand your opinion. I would say it's a valid feature request - I'm quite sure you are not the first one...

The Agent's warning isn't popping on the screen, you can see them only by going in the UI through the tray icon.

Let's imagine your admins have missed a warning of an agent in the console, however, the user was curious enough and checked the Agent UI, then he came to the admin to inform about the warning.
Without the warning in the Agent's UI your user can be left out of protection, just for example. Thanks!

thx for your replies.

We would then need the ability to clear the error via VBR Console for the corresponding workstation(s). Imagine a situation, where an error occurs systemwide and the customer has hundreds of workstations. The IT Support will see the problem in there monitoring, but *all* users will call support. That would cause too much load on IT support and money.

Christoph,

To better understand you request, can you please name any particular warning that could bother your customers? Thanks in advance!

from my old customers: the admins don't want that the end users see any errors. That's because it creates unnecessary support calls. End-users can also see if IT does not a good job in maintaining the backup infrastructure. IT just wants to avoid support calls.
