Licensing questions

Post by Johnson »

Dear all,

I have a question with regards to licensing to Nutanix box BUT the Nutanix box is installed with VMware ESXi hypervisor.

Existing environment:
- A few Dell R720 servers installed with ESXi.
- Veeam Backup & Replication Enterprise x 8 CPU (Perpetual)
(Ultimately, the existing environment will be de-commissioned after the servers are migrated to Nutanix)

New Environment:
- 2 x Nutanix box, with a total of 3 nodes.
- Each node has 2 CPU.
- We will be using VMware ESXi as hypervisor and not Nutanix AHV.

1. Can the Veeam license be re-used in the Nutanix environment?
2. If it cannot be re-used, how should the instance be calculated?

Will a VM be counted based on 1 instance or 1.5 instance, based on this link, assuming that the production edition is Enterprise version:
https://www.veeam.com/licensing-policy.html

Is there anyone from Veeam who can confirm the above points please?

Thank you very much.

Rgds,
Johnson

Updates:
I have spoken to 2 person (Managers) from xxx@veeam.com
One person is saying that the existing Veeam license cannot be re-used in the new Nutanix environment while the other person is saying that my existing Veeam license can be re-used in the new Nutanix environment.

Which is which?

I would like to seek clarity in here.

Thank you in advance.
