HOT ADD

How can I begin trouble shooting the hot add feature? Sometimes hotadd works and sometimes it does not. The veeam backup vm is running on a 4mb block size ds. The 2 vm's in question, one is 84gb in total size and the other is 25gb in total size. They both reside on the same lun/ds that is formated in 1mb blk size on a vmfs 3.33 file systems. The destination while replicating is to a lun/ds that is formated in 1mb blk size on a vmfs 3.31 file systems. This works sometimes, not all the time. Is there a best practices document for hotadd?
