Best practice

Post by homermg »

Hi Guys,

just installed the latest update 4 and would like to test backup to AWS now.
Is there any best practice for that task?
I would like to run daily backups to b2d and offsite each weekend to S3( late maybe with a policy to glacier) and and remove everything after 30 days from AWS and overwrite with the newest backup.
Many thanks

Hello, currently you cannot do offsite backup to AWS S3. Our object storage integration is about offloading OLDEST backups to object storage, as opposed to CURRENT backups (which is what you need for offsite backup). Thanks!

No - it's a very straightforward functionality with very few settings, which just works - so we don't have any formal "best practices" around it at this time.

Hi,

You can find the information about Capacity Tier which allows you to offload oldest backups to object storage in the User Guide.

Thanks!

Sure, restore points on the S3 storage will be removed by the retention policy. Thanks!

Why not? We can set a copy job to a physical tape, why can't we set one to an S3 bucket?

As per the next sentence that you did not quote, this response was in the context of our native object storage integration.
Of course there are other ways like VTL or cloud gateways, which always existed but are sub-optimal in terms of performance and costs.
