Monitor Backup Volume of a backup job

Post by STB »

Hello to everybode,

is it possible to monitor the backup capacity of one oder more single backup jobs so that you get a warning if the backup capacity increase of a given percent?
What I mean ist, that you get an information if the backup job normally has a capacity of 1TB and then from one day to another the capacity goes up to 1.2TB or down to 0.5TB.
This would be a great help for us within some backup jobs.

Kind regards,

Hi Stephan,

Just to clarify, each backup session transfers an inconsistent amount of data, that depends on a lot of factors. To name a few: changes on the VM side, backup method, job schedule, etc. I'm wondering what you'd like to achieve by having the aforementioned functionality. For me personally, it does not make sense. Could you please let us know your use-case?

Regards,
Fedor

Hi Fedor,

thanks for your reply and the question for our use-case.

We have some backup jobs with the agent for windows that backup several network-shares as "File-Level Backup" on the installed server.
To avoid that one of our users move or delete files or folders from this shares and we don't see that within the time-period in that we have restore points to recovery this,
we want to monitor this jobs and the capacity of them. So we could see when "something strange" is happen with this job.

Regards,
Stephan

Hi Stephan,
We have in plans an alarm which will notify you if size of incremental backup is X% bigger or smaller than size of previously created incremental backups.
Is that what you are looking for?
Thanks!
