Dear,

Page 71 discusses about, how to create VM Copy Job. Its not about replica seeding process.

Hi,

I have Western Digital 1TB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive. I have tried to add this External USB Storage using USB Pass-through to ESXi hosts but could not succeded to add it. Can you please specify is there any compatibility issues with ESXi for such USB devices. I need to know exactly what USB external storage is supportive to ESXi , which you have already tested for the same purpose, I mean for replica seeding.

If we consider NAS Storage, then how this storage could be presented to VEEAM Console, as in this console you can only add servers like

Vcenter Server
Stand alone ESXi host
Linux Server

Karim,

Here you go an existing topic about ESX(i) host passthrough capability, please take a look: vSphere 4.1 and USB Passthrough

As a matter of fact you can use either a mapped drive to backup to the Western Digital device or choose any local virtual disk (VM's vmdk) on the backup server to save replicated VM files and then move those files to the USB device.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

let say I have copied or replicated a VM to an external USB storage, then how to restore or upload that VM on DR-site ESXi Host Machine.
there is no Veeam Console is available on DR-Site. Only target Machine ESXi Host 4.0 is available on DR-Site. Should I install Veeam over there, attache that Exteranal storage to that Veeam ( Virtual Machine) and then start copying /uploading .

Thanx

Basically, there are multiple ways to upload those files to ESXi host.

First of all, you may want to use vSphere Client -> Datastore Browser, besides don't forget that you can use FastSCP functionality (built into Veeam B&R). In order to use it, I would recommend installing additional Veeam Backup console in the DR site, and then upload all the files as you have described it in your post.

Hope this helps.
