VMWare backup performance

Post by alexs »

Hi

So my setup

backup box (I think proxy box ??). it has 2 trunks, front and iscsi
the iSCSI has 9k mtu

my vmware hosts have 2 vswitches front and iSCSI

the network for iSCSI has 9k routed between hosts and backup server. But

Front has the default gateway for backup server
and the name of the VMWare host from vc points to the front end of the host.

is there some way to force connections via iSCSI interface on the vmware host.
I can do that on the windows backup server with static routes

will I gain anything with 9K mtu ?

Hello,
it depends on the customer environment. We have no general rule for jumbo frames / MTU size.

If everything is on jumbo frames, you might get a little bit better performance. But in general, I tend to start with "default" settings and tune a little bit afterwards.

Yes, you can set a preferred network

Best regards,
Hannes

Hello,
I read your question again and see now that you were asking about the vmware host. I'm not sure what you mean and what you try to achieve. I'm not sure whether I understand the question.

Best regards,
Hannes
