How to improve read speed of local disk during replication

Post by fortune_KN »

Hi All,
I have my VMs’ local disk read at 13MB/s or sometime 901KB/s during réplication. I don’t really understand why.
It seems those local disks are read by the target proxy via Nbd. Is it the way it is supposed to proceed ?

Below the message I have in statistics:

Using target proxy X.X.X.X for disk Hard disk 1 [nbd]
Hard disk drive 1 (200GB) 3,8GB read at 901KB/s

How could I increase this speed?

I have 2 sites production and DR

PRODUCTION:
1 physical server—> (VBR Server, Proxy and WAN Acc)
Proxy—> Direct SAN Access
Replicated VM —> 4TB Oracle DB ( 07 ASM disk)

DR Site
1 VM—> VBR Server
1 VM —> Proxy ( virtual Appliance)
1 VM —> Wan Acc

Virtual Network —>1Gbps
SAN FC is —>16Gbps
Bandwidth —> 3Mbps

Does increasing virtual Network to 10Gbps will increase this read speed ?

Thank you for help

Hi,

What are your settings for this step? Also I cannot find any mention of bottleneck stats in your post, would you provide that info, please?

Thanks!

what kind of bandwidth do you have btw the prod and DR site and how much data are you moving btw these hours?

please provide bottleneck stats as well.

hi ,
i am moving a 4TB VM (oracle Database with 7 ASM disk and 15% daily change) using a 3Mbps WAN link

"What are your settings for this step?"
i am replicating from backup and according to what i read, Source proxy is fixed and can only use ndb as transport mode for reading data on Prod Site (correct if i am wrong please)

Bottleneck stats give the following informations:
Local Source 44% > Source WAN 49% > network 47% > Target WAN 83% > Target 21%

3Mbps WAN link
Given the link speed, job performance is expected.

In the case of replicating from backup, source proxy is reading directly from backup files, not from production datastore, so transport mode is not relevant here. I'm a bit confused by the fact that target proxy is reported as the one reading data from the backup, how the source repository is set up? Is it a Windows server located at the source site?

Hi foggy,
Me too I am really confuse by the fact that target proxy is the one reading the source disk.

Hence my question regarding repository setup.
