[HCL] Dedupe Repo settings of Fujitsu CS800/8000

Post by ksaito »

Hi,

I had directly a question from Fujitsu HQ about following topics yesterday.
Because they will have internal presentation session about Veeam and Storage integration in Japan soon.

They are wondering how they should set CS800/8000 as deduplication appliance like DXi.

Any info about that?

Now KB shows those settings at only CIFS repository or VTL.

[KB]
HCL - Fujitsu CS800 -> Shared folder
HCL - Fujitsu ETERNUS CS800 (S7) -> CIFS
HCL - Fujitsu ETERNUS CS800 VTL -> VTL
HCL - Fujitsu ETERNUS CS8000 v7.x VTL -> VTL
HCL - Fujitsu CS8000

My Guess is...

Dedupe: none
Compress: Optimal
Storage Opt: LAN target

align file blocks: disabled
decompress before storing: enabled
Per-VM: enabled

Ken

Since it is Quantum DXi OEM, I believe the settings should be the same.

Hi, Alexander.

Thank you, but KB only shows Linux Repo about DXi....

HCL - Quantum DXi -> Linux
Quantum DXi with Veeam Backup & Replication: Configuration Best Practices
-> Linux and CIFS, but no description about De-dupe appliance.

So, adopt kb2671?

CS8000 is a completely different system then the CS800.

CS800 is a deduplication storage.
Inline Dedup disabled
Compression enabled
Block Size Local 16TB
Repo per VM chain enabled
Repo Allignment disabled
Repo uncompress enabled

CS8000 is a standard storage (without dedup) with a filer head.
They dedup only within the VTL part.
Important point is that customer need to deactivate HSM to tape (offload of older backup files to tape).
If you want to later go to tape you have to use Veeam Backup 2 Tape Jobs.

Inline Dedup enabled
Compression enabled
Block Size Local
Repo per VM chain enabled (suggested)
Repo Allignment disabled
Repo uncompress disabled

Hi,

are there any plans to add the Fujitsu systems (specifically CS800) to the documentation for repositories / dedupe appliances?
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... l?ver=95u4

Thanks,
Jan

I guess you are asking if we add the CS800 directly to the userinterface.

Overall the CS800 has the Veeam datamover option within the storage. The user interface integration just set some of the above listed settings automatically.
So, there is no technical benefit other than some less clicks at setup.
