Changing the TEMP path

Post by cesadan01 »

Good morning,

we are using the web application Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365.

Now, when you download the PST file or a One Drive file, it is put in C:/Windows/Temp.

I wanted to ask if it was possible, to choose a different path?

Thanks.

Best regards.

Hi Daniele and welcome to the Community!

Whether you save or export a file, it's always possible to specify the path. Please check out the documentation for export Exchange items to PST, saving OneDrive files and saving SharePoint items.

UPD: Daniele, I didn't realize at first that we're talking about REST API. Currently, the path for temporary files cannot be changed indeed. We'll take it as a feature request for the future versions.

Thanks!

Hi Niels and team. It seems that it is not only exporting to PST files, which causes high usage of temporary disk space.

We started the restoration of a large mailbox from an S3 backend while setting the target to another mailbox (MAILBOX2/RESTORE-MAILBOX1). This process ended up filling the C drive of the VBO365 instance under the following path: C:\ProgramData\Veeam\Backup\ExchangeExplorer\Dumps.

I brought up this topic with the Veeam Vanguards, and it seems like a common problem for large restores. Some have mentioned that their current workaround is to provision multi-TB of system drives for their VBO instances.

Are there any plans for making the location of temporary storage configurable?

Hi Preben,

No immediate plans, but we are looking into improvements around the restore in the future. Can I ask how large these dumps are getting, and how much data you are exporting to a PST file?

Hi Mike,

This is not export as PST. It is restore from one mailbox to another. The dumps just filled up the C-drive and eventually crashed.

We moved the system variable %temp% to a dedicated SSD drive, which allows us large and performante restores.

In VB365 v7 it's possible to set the temp folder path using the cmdlet Set-VBOServer -TempFolderPath <String>
