First full replication to external disk

Post by eurostat_it »

Hi everyone,

I'd like to know if we can do the first full vm replication to an external disk and copy files to a hypervisor ?

Does Veeam recognize replication files and do the rest automatically ?

Thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome to the community!
Do you mean Replica Seeding technique?
Thanks

Hi, thank you for your quick reply.

We have only 15 Mb/s bandwidth between our 2 sites. And I have about 4 Tb of data to transfer. It's very problematic.
I'm looking for a efficient method for replication and recover in case of crash.
What is your advice ?

I can advise the mentioned technique called Replica Seeding.
With replica seeding, you do not have to transfer all of VM data from the source host to the target host across the sites when you perform initial replication. Instead, you can use a VM backup created with Veeam Backup & Replication as a replica “seed”. When the replication job starts, Veeam Backup & Replication will use the seed to build a VM replica.
If you believe 15Mbps is not sufficient even for incremental replication runs, you can also leverage WAN Acceleration.
Thanks!
