Veeam simple copy to external USB

Post by jimscott »

hello,

I currently have Veaam B&R running and backing up my VMs in one backup job for the whole VMware cluster to a physical Veeam server with local disk repository. A full backup is about 3TB +Daily incremental with a Synthetic full every Friday.

What is the easiesy way to copy the latest Veeam backup for the cluster (or VMs within the cluster) to a USB drive for long term archiving. I am thinking maybe two 4TB USB drives used for archiving at the end of every month or when needed.

Backup copy job seems over complicated for this and from what I have read will constantly run?

If backup copy job doesn't answer your requirements, consider creating VeeamZIP backup on rotated drive once a month. Thanks!

Hi, thank for the reply. Backup copy job might do what we need but I am unsure if it will be constantly running or if I can run backup copy job ad-hoc and just when required?

Hey Jim,

If it were me, I wouldn't bother with Backup Copy here. It's good, but it does assume constantly running, and the interval planning was a minor headache for us.

You have a pretty common need here, so I'd just either copy the Full Backup off periodically, or if there's an increment on your day-of backup, use the Export Backup option to get a full and just copy it to the rotated.
