Snapshot Stun Issue

When VEEAM sends the call to vCenter to do a snapshot is it possible to make it so that it doesnt snapshot the memory? We have an issue where the snapshot stun is significant and can stop network access for several seconds. This causes an issue since we have several RDP servers and SQL servers and when the snapshot occurs it will disconnect those servers.

I've talked to VMWare who told me to talk to our datastore vendor. We use an HCI solution and they mount the datastore as NFS. The datastore vendor said everything is working normally.

If i remove the option to snapshot the memory it takes the snapshot very quickly without any significant network drops.

We do not snapshot the memory.

Can you tell me which HCI solution you use and I can point you to correct configuration.

Overall usually the issue comes from HotAdd disc cross server mounts.

I recommend to use Direct NFS (select direct storage) and give veeam proxies access to the NfS backend. Other option is to set Procy network mode. This should minimize the impact.

Overall when you use one of the 2 mentioned protocols and you have still issues, you can check manually creation and deletion of snapshots after some minutes on the vcenter, this will show then independent from Veeam the issue. For manual snapshot creation do NOT use VMware Tools quiescence nor memory dumps.

When using direct mode, is this direct to the data store or the backup store?

Datastore - a proxy server must have a direct access to a production datastore via (I)SCSI or NFS, depending on datastore type. Thanks!

Then my guess is that the stun comes from the cross mount at HotAdd processing.
At the Proxy configuration select network mode directly and work on the NFS access to have better speed with Direct Storage (Direct NFS). Yes, it reads directly from theNFS store.
