SOBR data placement question

Post by tom_nl »

Hi,

What happens if we get the "unable to meet data policy" warning, and backup files are placed on another extend.
Will Veeam do something smart to get the files on the same extend again, after we have freed some space on that extend? We do not use active/synthetic full backups.

Placement policy is Data locality.

Hi Tom,

No, placement policy is only taken into account during a backup.

Thanks

So when backup files are split between two extends, they stay there?

Correct, simply because it's more beneficial to perform a backup rather than just fail with an error.

Ok. And the only way the correct it, is to perform an active/synthetic full?

Simply add space to the extent and new .vib files will be placed to it, if the corresponding .vbk is also there.
