Backup Jobs and new VMWare Server

Post by Helmut72 »

Hi,

I replaced an ESXi 6.0 with an new server on 6.7 and the same name. I ex- and imported the VMs using ovftool. Now my backup job "WMWare Windows Guests" shows also a Linux guest and the Job "VMWare Linux Guests" is missing that one.

Do I have to refresh something or do I need to recreate those jobs?

Thank you!

How do you add VMs in the job - individually or using some vSphere container? Do you point the job to the ESXi host directly or use the vCenter Server? Please note that in the former case, you have to re-add VMs in the jobs as their IDs have changed upon registration on the new host.

Hello,
and welcome to the forums.

As you don't seem to have a VCenter, your VMs have new IDs after migration... so you need to add them to the jobs again and remove the old VMs.

You will get a new full backup.

Best regards,
Hannes

Yes, no vCenter.

Changed the Job, thank you.

At Backups => Disk I still see the "old" VMs with their restore points (so I see the servers twice now). Can I somehow "import" at least the full backups so avoid confusion?

Thank you!

Hi,

I don't think it's possible since both vSphere and B&R count them as different VMs.

Thanks

Hello,
if you delete the backup job then they will be in "disk (imported)" but that probably does not help today anymore...

The only advise I have is to not look that the backup sections. If you restore, just click on the big restore button in the ribbon and select the date you need.

Best regards,
Hannes

You can get rid of the old ones after reaching the required number of new restore points in the chain.
