Backup validate

Post by pdionisis@gmx.net »

Backup validator

Trying hard to use veeam backup for linux but I keep seeing obstacles

A new problem is that when I tried to restore a task I received CRC errors and restore stopped
It was a task with 1 full and 1 incremental backup. Since the problem was at full everything
was lost.
When I made the backup I received no errors.

Now I need to start over .
Another time I had problem when I tried to delete an intermediate incremental backup
(probably did something wrong following the procedure at your site)

So, Is there a way to validate a backup at linux?

Maybe restore it to /dev/null at least to check if there are CRC errors?

Thank you

Hello,
are you using the standalone agent?

Are you using Backup and Replication (VBR)? I ask because you could the storage level corruption guard / heath check in the backup job settings with VBR. Or the backup validator https://www.veeam.com/kb2086

In general your request for health check for the Linux agent looks valid for me. I need to double check with my colleague after he is back from vacation.

Best regards,
Hannes

Hello

I use the standalone linux client not VBR.
The backup validator is only for windows(I think)

Hi,
yes, the Windows agent has health check built in. The validator is a VBR component.

Hi,

Your request for a built-in backup validator has been noted.
Another time I had problem when I tried to delete an intermediate incremental backup
(probably did something wrong following the procedure at your site)
Would you clarify which procedure did you follow? VAL doesn't support intermediate incremental deletion.

Thanks!

To delete an intermediate backup I tried to use the information described here:

https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/agent ... tml?ver=30
together with:
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/agent ... tml?ver=30

I don't remember exactly what I did and screwed the database...

My mistake.
I understand that deleting intermediate backups is not supported.

Also I keep getting CRC errors at the following scenario:

Source: a full disk (all the volumes on it ) to a target Samba drive. The disk contains the root , boot partition ,
lvm with VMs of a proxmox 6.04 system
Target: samba NTFS drive served by a windows VM at the same machine (local NTFS disk). Actually a disk passed
through to a windows VM.

Backup runs ok without errors.
Full Restore from veeam boot spits LZ4 CRC error
During restore the disk is mounted directly to the veeam boot image (since it is an ntfs local disk)

Started over twice (the whole procedure to do a fresh install and then backup-restore) and at both
times I got the same CRC error.

The disks are fine hardware wise .
Also the samba share seem to work fine . Did a couple of CRC tests of multi gig files transfered
through the above samba share.

Hello,
please ask support for help with the CRC errors and post the case number here for reference.

We actually have some difficulties with finding common time with support for connecting with remote desktop to my server.
I tried several times ...

(I understand of course that I do not pay for support so I am not 1st priority but I think this is a bug of the program
that if fixed will help others also)

So If there is something I can do without remote desktop I will do .

Have you uploaded logs to support's FTP? If yes, then kindly provide me with the case ID.

Thanks!
