You can run VAL on the host to backup the servers without an issue.

Hi @prewest,

As nielsengelen already said, you can run VAL on the host. However I am curious about your user case - do you have stateful containers on LXC? What kind of workload do they run? I am asking because I thought that containers are something that can be redeployed easily with a snap of fingers using something like chef or ansible.

Thanks!

Hi @P.Tide,

Already tried VAL on the host yesterday, didn`t work.. it stays at 0% forever without doing anything..
I`m running LXC on debian stretch on a ZFS volume.. only way I have found at the moment is to back it up with a TAR command including the --numeric-owner command, without that it will not start if I move it to another server.
