Copying Veeam backups from Data Domain repository to a Windows repository

Post by fmagic »

I have a requirement to copy select backup files out of a Veeam repository and make them available on a standard Windows CIFS repository. Is there a way to access the Data Domain DD Boost file system to copy the files to another Windows share? I tried opening a ticket with Veeam technical support and they said that I need to talk to Dell EMC about how to do this, but I figured I would post here in case anyone else has run into this. The Veeam jobs use per-VM backup files, so once I get access to the DD Boost file system, I should be able to easily identify the files I need to copy.

Do you need to copy the whole backup chain (.vbk + .vib) or you just need to export certain restore point? In the latter case check this feature. Thanks!

You can just turn on SMB on the DD and create a user with access.

Then access the data over SMB and copy it off. It won't be fast, but it'll work

Hi Mike, an easier way would be to open the Files node in Veeam B&R and drag-and-drop files there to any Windows server added to Veeam B&R console. Thanks!

Copying the files through the Files node is exactly what I needed to know! I was not aware of that feature as I've never needed to move backup files around like this before. Thank you, @foggy.
