After permanent failover what happens sot ordinal VM

Post by Hack34 »

So I am using VM replication to migrate our production VMs from old hardware to new hardware and the process is going smooth by using replica to do the migration I haven’t had to take down any production VMs. My question is after a permanent failover I notice the original VM is still in my old environment but powered off and I understand that the replica is now the production VM but before I delete it is it still possible to power on the VM in case for some reason the replica had an issue? My plan was just to leave them in the old environment for a week or so before deleting them. Also I do have backups of them so its probably me just being over paranoid. Or because Veeam has made this migration seem smooth so far.

Thanks for the help/clarification

Hi Johnny, you can power on the original VM in case of any issues with the replica, however, it contains the OS state as of time prior to failover so you will lose all the changes that occurred since then.
