Protecting backups

Post by dwright1542 »

How do you folks protect backups local to the Veeam server, on a Windows machines? It's easy to do it on CIFS / SMB shares, but I have an iSCSI based SAN that I'd like to use for backups, so I can only mount it in Windows / datastore. That makes it vulnerable.

Any thoughts?

Hi,

The recommended approach is to follow the 3-2-1 Rule or at least to have a backup copy job to an external attachable drive. Thanks!

Oh I already do that. This is purely for deciding if I should build a Linux NAS box in front of the iSCSI SAN to share via CIFS, or can I actually protect the drive if I mount it locally?

Could you please clarify what kind of protection do you mean here?
