File Copy job - retention

Post by stewsie »

Hi

Is there a way to set a retention on a file copy job? I need to take a daily file copy job to ensure transaction logs are copied along with the VM files to another repository. I cannot see any option for retention.

Thanks

Hello,
moved to backup & replication forum.

unfortunately not... the filecopy job is not built for that but we are working on improvements to solve that issue.

Best regards,

OK thanks for the update. I need to use this function to ensure transaction logs are copied to another repository.

Thanks

Can you tell me if the retention period for file copy be available in the next patch?

there will be an improved backup copy job which allows to copy database logfiles (incl retention). and if you need retention for general "file backup" you can use NAS backup.

the file copy job itself will not be improved (I would even argument that we could remove file copy jobs from the product if there is NAS backup & improved backup copy jobs :-))

Out of curiosity - how do you plan to restore from these backups in case something happens with the primary ones? Thanks!

If the transaction logs are unavailable the only option would be to go back to the last full backup. This is an acceptable risk. Ideally transaction logs would be copied as part of the copy job and also to tape. Maybe that option will be available in a future release?
