Veeam Server with NAT communication

Post by yemyat »

Hello All,

Nice to meet you all and exploring the community around.
I would like to discuss for my scenario.

My Veeam Backup and Replication VM was under management network.I would like to back up the Server that exists in Production Network.

There is a NAT on the NSX Edge and if Veeam VM (192.168.1.22) need to talk my Server that I want to back up (10.10.0.1), it cannot go directly but with NAT ip(172.10.10.1) we can communicate well. We did a Static NAT with specific port binding to my Server.
I cannot change the NAT Policy because of some condition.

Is there any experience on my current situation? Feel free to give me any ideas.
Cheers all,
With Regards,
Myat

Hello Myat,

Just to clarify your question: You have a NAT set up and Veeam B&R does back up VMs located on the ESXi server (10.10.0.1) only if you use NAT IP, but you want to avoid using that?

Thank you!

Hello Bro,

Thank you so much for your replied message.

I cannot reach network directly from Veaam VM to my VM.
It can only reach to via NAT Configured.
The way I want to trying out is Veeam Backup & Replication works with NAT IP to back up bro ?
I am testing but cannot backup till now. So I was looking for community help.
Have a good day. Thank for your valuable time.

With Regards,
Myat

OK so if I understand it correctly the B&R server is behind a firewall and you can only communicate with the VMs for guest processing/restore by NAT IPs.
This is not working because we will get from VMware the list of IP addresses from the VM (which do not include the NAT IP address of this VM). Then we try all IPs for the Guest processing from that list.

You see there is no way that we will know the NAT IP address.

Why not setting up routing in the needed way with firewall processing and allow our servers to communicate.
Another way would be to implement a Guest Interaction proxy (need to be member of both or communicate without NAT).
And the third option is to use VIX. https://bp.veeam.expert/job_configurati ... processing
