Windows Server Backup - without VSS
Hi,
is it possible to backup a large volume (over 64TB) on a physical Windows 2016 server with the Windows Agent from Backup and Replication 9.5?
VSS will fail due to the size of the volume, so can we run a backup job without using VSS please?
many thanks,
Tom

Re: Windows Server Backup - without VSS
Hello,
and welcome to the forums.
Unfortunately that's not possible with the agent. The only workaround I can suggest is to wait for NAS backup and do a backup via SMB protocol.
Best regards,
Hannes

Hi,
thanks a lot for such a quick reply.
Is there an expected date for NAS backup please?
many thanks,
Tom

Hi,
end of 2019 is the plan (as always: it ships when it's done)
Best regards,
Hannes

Re: Windows Server Backup - without VSS
Has anything changed in the last two years? Or is VSS still mandatory for agent based backups (file-level)?

everything the same for the Veeam Agent for Windows. As mentioned earlier, NAS backup can work without VSS

Re: Windows Server Backup - without VSS
That's true. But I would have planned to use an agent backup so that it can be included in a backup to tape job.
NAS backups can't go to tape, and also File to tape is not working for that case, as the target it a GFS pool.

Re: Windows Server Backup - without VSS
as the original question was about 64TB volumes: with V11 and integrated storage systems (the ones that have Veeam / VMware integration)... there you can go beyond the 64TB limit by using the off-host proxy for agent-based backup. https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110

It's also about the 64TB limitation in that case.
Storage Integration would be a great idea, didn't know that you can circumvent the limit there, but it's a standalone system.
