Restore guest files using PowerShell Direct is very slow

Post by micros »

Hi,
We are testing restore of guest files through PowerShell Direct, it works but the speed is very low.
We get around 5-8MB/s when restoring files.

Veeam server is a VM on a host which is connected with 4x10Gb NIC's to the cluster where the VM we restore files to is located.
What speeds can we expect, what bottleneck is causing this?

Hello,
the architecture of that restore mechanism is the bottleneck. Compared to VIX (the VMware equivalent) your values are great :-)

Edit: I just tested in my lab and I get similar results (3-6 MByte/s).

Maybe some other Hyper-V customers can share their speed.

Best regards,
Hannes

I think the measurement of manual copy speed using PowerShell Direct from Veem server to the VM might be useful as well.

that "issue" can only be resolved by Microsoft.

If you need fast restore, please use normal network. If port requirements are the main reason, then we have the persistent guest agent since V11
