Veeam Backup Scenario

Hello,

I have a question which I hope you can answer.

Our current scenario: We use Veeam backup V5 to backup all our VMs to a physical windows 2008 target (with local storage) which resides in the same building.

Possible new scenario: In our new scenario we want to backup our VMs to a different data center which will be connected by a
optical link.

However we want to have the best performance possible, so we will be placing a ESXi host there with a
lot of onboard storage. We then run a Linux VM on that host so we can use the advantages of a Linux-target agent.

The VM will use onboard storage to write the Veeam backup files.

Would this scenario work, or would it be (alot) better to use a physical Linux-target rather then a Virtual linux-target.

Hello Maykel,

Both scenarios would work, however what is really important here is the CPU power on your Linux box. Just make sure you have either 4vCPUs for the VM or modern CPU on the physical box.
