Agent for Windows warning about moved files

Post by horhota »

We are using the latest version of Veeam Agent for Windows, free edition. Earlier this week I copied, to an archive disk, old folders and files from the folder that we are backing. I then deleted those old folders and files in the folder we are backing up. Ever since then Veeam Agent for windows has been giving me warnings in my nightly backup, saying that it can't back up the files that I have moved. The folders and files no longer appear in Windows Explorer so I can't figure out why Veeam wants to back them up. Should I have done something different in archiving the files? Is there something I should do in Veeam with the backup job configuration? I would appreciate any help and suggestions. Please note, I tried to search the forum for this topic but I couldn't provide an exact search topic and my query got dozens of possible results.

Greetings Horhota!

If you have File-level backup job, Veeam Agent "remembers" your last backup selection until you edit the job again.
Please click on Burger menu - Backup Job name - Edit job. If folder, selected before for backup, does not exist anymore, at this point Veeam will automagically detect it and will give you a prompt "Some of folders do not exist anymore. Remove them from configuration?". Hit Yes, Save and you are good to go!

Hope that helps!

Thank you for your reply and the information. Unfortunately, I don't have a File-level Backup job - I was using a volume level backup(but I have now changed that to an Entire backup based on increased storage on the destination drive). I edited the Volume level job before I submitted my earlier post and I did not get any prompt that some folders were missing and I still got warning errors in my backup log. I have just changed tonight's backup to entire computer and did not get any prompt either. I will check later to see if the warnings still appear in the logs.
If you have any further suggestions, it would be appreciated.

With volume level backup Veeam agent will not check files and folders on a file system, thus error about files being backed up is quite strange.
Any chance that you can share error message text that you are overseeing?
Note that you can always open a support ticket from agent UI and get assistance to find a root cause that way.

Hello Egor. Here is a partial print screen from the warning email I received. It is similar to what I saw in the log files:

These files and many others were all moved to an archive file a few days previously and were deleted from the folders shown above. I received this warning email even after editing the job.

Thanks for sharing.
Like I mentioned before, Volume Level backup does not look into files, so that error is very strange.
Having a word "shares" in the logs, I have a feeling that it might be some CIFS share mounted to said server or something?
What is listed under "Objects" in job settings?
