Dedupe and Encryption
I'm currently using the Windows Storage Spaces with dedupe functionality, and I'm achieving excellent ratios. Recently we've been notified that we need to encrypt the at rest data. I know from experience if I do encrypt with VBR I will lose those ratios. Is there any means of encrypting the data?

Re: Dedupe and Encryption
Your best bets are either to use BitLocker (https://pureinfotech.com/encrypt-storag ... bitlocker/) or self-encrypting hard drives.

Re: Dedupe and Encryption
Hello Matthew,
Sure, you can encrypt data with VBR at several levels, including Backup job, Transaction log backup job and Backup copy job.
Note that if Veeam B&R does encryption at rest, it is performed on source, because target repository is not considered "trusted".

Thx all. Looks like I'll go the BitLocker route.

Re: Dedupe and Encryption
@Shestakov if Veeam encryption is used then that may negatively impact Windows dedupe, as all the blocks would look unique.

Re: Dedupe and Encryption
Correct. So when you encrypt with Veeam it makes sense to use inline deduplication as well
