Struggling with Azure backup config: extents not there..?

Post by rgouette »

Case# 03877709
My goal is to have VEEAM backing nightly up to Azure .
I'm running VEEAM "Essentials Enterprise". Help About says: VBR v9.5 Update 4

Is my version compatible with configuring Azure Blob storage?

Kind thanks,
Rich

Hi, Rich - yes, it is compatible. However, for nightly copies you need to wait for v10 release. The current version can only offload older backups to Azure, whereas it sounds like you want to have most current backups copied to Azure. Thanks!

Hi Gostev, thanks for the info: I think I have a different issue however, because when I go to create a "Scale-out Repository", I get to the "Performance Tier" portion, and if I hit "Add", to pick a backup repository, I do not see either of the two Azure Blob repositories that exist...? Only the existing CIFS, or Windows repositories.
Any idea what's wrong?

You need to select your Azure repository on the next SOBR wizard page called Capacity Tier. Thanks!

Gostev, when you mentioned needing v10, does that mean I won't get a backup at ALL to Azure cloud?
I ask, because I just ran my backup job, and although the VIB is created locally, nothing is being written to azure blob storage...
Thoughts?

Hi Rich,
Does that mean I won't get a backup at ALL to Azure cloud?
Not directly.
If you want to deliver the most recent backups to Azure blob, the option you have with current VBR version is, for instance, set up offload policy for your Scale-out rep to 1 day and then configure the corresponding backup job to keep 2 or more restore points on disk.
In this case, the backups older than 1 day will be offloaded to Azure blob storage.

Is this documented somewhere? Because I just don't understand what "set up offload policy for your Scale-out rep to 1 day " means..
:(
I appreciate your replies..

Check this guide.
By setting up offload policy I meant specifically point 4 (a and b) on the page I shared.

Even in this case, though, only restore points belonging to the inactive backup chain will be offloaded to object storage.

However, it seems to me that you're trying to use the product feature the way it hasn't been designed, and what you really need is the ability to copy backups to object storage as soon as they are created.

This feature will be a part of v10 release, so, might be worth waiting for it.

Thanks!

When It's Ready™

I can only say that we've just made the first Release Candidate build available internally, which typically means we're a few weeks away (however, keep the holiday season in mind as well).
