How to test backup?

I'm using B&R community edition on a host that has two VM's. What's a simple way to do a test restore without affecting production? Can I do an instant recovery but into a third blank VM off the network to see if ti boots?

Yes, you can perform restore to a new location, or with different settings, so you can choose another network.
