Restore to smaller disk

Post by guitarfish »

I have a 250GB hard drive. I'd like to do a full backup and then restore to a 240GB SSD drive. Anyone know if this is possible? I am only using 50GB of space.

Just to make sure the migration goes smoothly I'd recommend to perform a defrag on a source volume prior the full backup. Shrink during restore could be prevented by unmovable blocks at the end of the volume layout (original volume layout is stored in the backup) and defrag helps to address this issue. Cheers!
