Backup Copy job from remote site

Post by karsten123 »

Hi,
we have a remote site with one Hyper-V Host and one HQ with Veeam BR server.
On the remote site we have one virtual gateway / proxy server and a NAS for backups.
For 3rd copy we have local storage in the Veeam BR Server, which is the target for the backup copy job.
The connection is secured via vpn.
Is this setup the "optimum" in terms of the data paths without using WAN Accelerator?
TIA

Hello,
yep, sounds good. The only minor thing to optimize would be to change the compression level on the backup copy job to "extreme".

Best regards,
Hannes

PS: the data path would not change with WAN accelerator.

Hello Hannes,

Thank you very much.
So, all the data flowing between the two data movers is compressed, right?
Are there any downsides besides CPU utilisation for the extreme compression?

best regards
Karsten

Hi Karsten,

Yes, that's right.

Are there any downsides besides CPU utilisation for the extreme compression?
The extreme compression level requires more CPU, modern multi-core CPUs are recommended if you're going to use the extreme compression level.

Thanks!
