Veeam License Merge

Post by tomas881 »

Hi everybody,

If I have per CPU License merged with per Instance License, I understand that for VMware and Hyper-V workload it will consume the CPU licenses first. What if I run out of those and I want to make backups from other VMs that are in a host that's not licensed? Will it consume from the 'per Instance License'? Or are this only for Agents, Cloud VMs, etc.

Thanks!

Hi,

Instances are for Agents and other workloads only, so vSphere backup jobs will fail with an error message about no additional licenses available.

Thanks!

Hi Vitaly, thanks for the reply.
Just to be sure, if I have a VUL alone I can use it for vSphere jobs but if I merge it with a CPU License it will be only for Instances and Agents. Correct?

Hi Tomas,

That's correct, the CPU license part will be responsible for protecting VMs on VMware and Hyper-V hosts only.
Instance licenses from Veeam Agents will cover all Instance-based workloads, except for VMs on VMware and Hyper-V hosts.
Please review the Licensing FAQ for additional details.

Thanks!
