Extended retention on S3 capacity tier?

Post by shaharr »

Hi.
we want to switch from tape backups to cloud and i think im missing the option - how can i configure extended retention on S3 tier?
for example - i have daily backup with 14 restore points. i wish only weekly restore point to be archived on S3 for x day and monthly restore point for y days.
if i would use tapes i would just have 2 media sets.

how can i configure something like that for the cloud?

thanks,
wishr

Hi Shahar,

Capacity Tier inherits the retention from jobs themselves, so you need to configure GFS Copy Jobs according to your needs, point them to a SOBR with Capacity Tier and you are good.

Thanks

thanks for the replay.

so in order to use GFS i need to use Copy job, and in order to use copy job i need to setup another local backup repository for the staging area since i cannot write directly to the S3 storage... that could take some space for the full backups.

so in addition to buying S3 space, i need to add local storage for 1 full backup copy.

In v10, primary backup jobs support GFS retention too.
