VBR config rollback

I'm not sure if it's a limitation of "free" version of VBR or a technical issue.

I'm having trouble restoring a VBR configuration from a backup stored on repository backed up by SMB share (synology NAS running latest DSM).
I can backup / restore VMs from that repo but can not restore VBR configuration (it tells me that backup is form a different version or corrupted).
I can copy VBR config backup to server running VBR and restore it from there, so I know config backup is not corrupted.

I'm using free version, so I had to contacted sales to get a evaluation license in order to be able to open support case with all technical details/screenshots and will post it here. But if somebody have seen similar issue, your feedback would be highly appreciated.
