Feature Request - Veeam for Mac Laptops and Workstations

Post by nmaludy »

Hello,

We support several dozen businesses that are primarily Mac shops. These customers currently pay us for managed backups, but because Veeam doesn't support Mac we have to use another service.

It would be great if Veeam offered Mac support, because then we could backup these agents using the same method and repositories that we already have setup.

These Macs are primarily laptops and workstations for end-users.

Thanks,
Nick

Hi Nick,

Thanks for your feature request. There is an existing topic with similar requests, please take a look > Other OS Support (Linux, Mac)

Thanks!

@nmaludy how do you backup Macs with another service: file-level or image-level?

@nmlaudy,
Ok, so you are a service provider, right? How are you going to deploy agent for Mac (should it be released) into your clients' infrastructures? Are you aiming to use their existing MDM servers in combination with your ABM account, or there are other means of deployment that you intend to use?

@mkretzer,
Any insights on your practices regarding deployment will be highly appreciated as well : )

Thanks!

What exactly do you need?

For us no matter how it is deployed it is better than having no solution at all :-)

@mkretzer,

To be more precise - if you had to deploy a certain piece of software on all 50 Mac systems, how would you accomplish that task? Would you use AppStore, MDM solutions (such as JAMF, or mosyle), or something else?

Thanks!

SSH and Shell scripting. We use it all the time from our Client Management Software Baramundi

I'd also be interested in this. We have to use a second backup product to back up our Macs. The ability to back them up in Veeam and manage them in VBR would be great.

I have seen others use apple products for this like https://www.apple.com/remotedesktop/sof ... ution.html

But mostly what i have seen are admins using scp/ssh to push/install

+1 for me as well

I'm in the EDU sector and our Administration team is 80%+ Mac. We would be looking at 50-75 machines depending on how far down the chain we go. We use Mosyle to deploy software to our devices. The software is stored on and internal SMB share with an AWS backup when SMB is not available. The MDM requires the software to be in .pkg format for deployment. I'd also like to see a deployable .plist file for easy configuration.

Hi Eric, macOS agent will be released later together with Veeam Backup & Replication v11. Thanks for sharing other details on the agent management piece!
