Instant recovery with only thick disks (Agent-based backup)
Hello !
Recently I upgraded B&R to version 10.
And tried to import Windows-agent-based backup. It was done successfully.
After that I tried to perform Instant Recovery to my vCenter.
It works, but no disk type configuration is presented (thick or thin), so my restored VM became thick-provisioned.
Only default storage policies are configured.
And storage migration with thin-disk selection helped me in this case.
But when it tried to "Export disk content as virtual disks" as VMDK file - it allows to select thin or thick disk type.
Is it possible to make Instant Recovery with thin-provisioned disk?
Thanks in advance !

Re: Instant recovery with only thick disks (Agent-based backup)
Hi Konstantin,
Just talked to the RnD team regarding your question. Currently, there is no way to select disk type when either you're recovering an agent-based backup or a VM-based, so storage migration or export disk content looks to be the only option to achieve what you want.
Thanks!

Re: Instant recovery with only thick disks (Agent-based backup)
Hello Data Hoarders,
Is "Export Content to Virtual Disk" still the recommended way to go? I need to restore an Agent-made backup of a physical machine to VMware. An attempt with Instant Recovery lets me boot the machine, but I cannot migrate it to production because it appears to be thick-provisioned, and I don’t have enough free space on my VMware hosts.
Best,
DD

Hello,
there is nothing against "export content to virtual disk" and as you cannot use Instant Recovery, that's probably the easiest option.
Best regards
Hannes

Re: Instant recovery with only thick disks (Agent-based backup)
Hi,
I have created a new VM on Vcenter, then exported the physicals machines disks into the folder, attached them, and it booted right up without issues. I only had the reconfigure the network settings as expected.
Best,
DD
