Error when creating a user account

I am trying to create a regular account with shell privilges on an ESX 3.01 server with Veeam RootAccess 1.0.0.3. At the end of the wizard, I get the following error message:
Creating user account accountname...
Error: A specified parameter was not correct.

There are two reasons and, therefore, two solutions to avoid this error:
1. Remove all incorrect characters from user name like: "(quatation), '(apostrophe), :(colon) and space
2. Shrink user name to less than 16 characters
