Does enabling GFS process existing restore points?

Post by GreenAlpha55 »

I have 180 restore points, What happens? On first run will all GFS points be created (week, month, year) that can be created out of the 180 restore points? Or does GFS start from the time I turn it on going forward, meaning nothing is created from the existing 180 restore points? Restore points are daily and I'm asking this in regards to GFS on Backup Jobs in v10.

Hello,
from user guide
Veeam Backup & Replication does not create any new backup files — it uses backup files already created and marks them with specific GFS flags.
Does that answer your question?

Best regards,

Hi,

It actually leads us to this page.
As stated there:
Veeam Backup & Replication assigns GFS flags only after you save GFS retention policy settings. This means that GFS flags are assigned only to those backup files created after the configuration, while backup files created earlier are not affected and previously assigned flags are not modified.
So, VBR starts counting those restore points created after you enable GFS.

Thanks,
Oleg
