large media files

Post by lowlander »

When back-large media files I believe no compression should be possible.

- What data reduction ratio can be expected from a Veeam backup job as a rule of thumb ?
- Can we reduce space on the target backup repository with Windows 2019 deduplication ?
- Are there deduplication solutions that can assist vs low cost storage solutions ;) ?

thanks !

Typically we say it is 50% depending on the nature of data. Since data reduction comes from compression mostly, it will not be high for media files though. Media files themselves don't deduplicate well as well but Windows Deduplication will help to gain some space by duplicating backup files between each other.
